Joe gets his trophy from stand-in captain Phil Cooke………..

This week 60 golfers contested the Dublin Crystal individual stableford on maybe the hottest day this year, well into the 30’s. We were indebted to Jim Creamer this week for fulfilling the role of starter. Not fantastic scores, the greens were in good condition but many players found that their putts were coming up short. Actually, the best scores came in late when a cooling breeze arrived,.
Saturday was Condado’s turn to host the 6 course challenge, and the green keepers had pulled out all the stops to present the course in the best possible condition. Maybe some confusion over the drop zone on hole 11 – a couple of weeks ago we were told that it had been removed, but ‘hey, presto’ there it was back again! Very difficult for the committee to relay this ever-changing information to our players. Also it was good to see red lines around the lakes identifying the hazard limits – lets hope they stay visible for the rest of the year!

LATE NEWS – the society has been offered the choice of either option – the drop zone stays!
Recently we were given dates for hollow coring on Condado. This was for September and we were given alternative courses for the Monday and Wednesday. Then we accidentally found out that this has been moved to just two weeks away, July 1st- 4th. With the Barry Barker Strokeplay major event planned for the 5th we were left with no alternative but to move it to a later date (August 30th) rather than play on greens covered with holes and sand. Alternative venues now are at El Valle on Monday the 1st and Hacienda Requelme (Booking available via Master Scoreboard) on Wednesday the 3rd, with a 4 person team event at Condado on Friday the 5th.
Next week is a pairs stableford.
