The course is in great shape at the moment. ………..

.

Another scorching day for the 52 players (26 pairs) with the course in excellent condition. A close contest with lots of scores above 40 points, with 45 taking the spoils. Thanks to Barbara Rollett for covering the starter’s role on her return from holiday, and also taking the winner’s photo in my absence.

.

1st Roy Winter & Erik Van Nigtevegt……………………………….45pts (on countback)

2nd Tommy Toner & Shaun Cairney…………………………………..45pts

3rd Bob Whitty & Pat Whitty……………………………………………….44pts (on countback)

.

Erik and Roy were the best on the day, with a new pairing making the presentation – Dave Rollett and Peter Reeves.

.

How about these for the next society shirts? Ricky Comber and Anthony Keating are the models!

.

Next Monday the course will not be as good as hollow coring will take place on all the greens. From past experience it should be a few weeks before the current conditions will return. So the course will be closed Monday to Thursday next week, and the society will play at El Valle Monday and Hacienda Riquelme on Wednesday (society rates apply).

Friday is a 4 person team event (at Condado).

Joe gets his trophy from stand-in captain Phil Cooke………..

.

This week 60 golfers contested the Dublin Crystal individual stableford on maybe the hottest day this year, well into the 30’s. We were indebted to Jim Creamer this week for fulfilling the role of starter. Not fantastic scores, the greens were in good condition but many players found that their putts were coming up short. Actually, the best scores came in late when a cooling breeze arrived,.

Saturday was Condado’s turn to host the 6 course challenge, and the green keepers had pulled out all the stops to present the course in the best possible condition. Maybe some confusion over the drop zone on hole 11 – a couple of weeks ago we were told that it had been removed, but ‘hey, presto’ there it was back again! Very difficult for the committee to relay this ever-changing information to our players. Also it was good to see red lines around the lakes identifying the hazard limits – lets hope they stay visible for the rest of the year!

and he cruelly suggested I’d dropped a euro – actually this is the only way I can get out of bunkers……………

2 weeks ago this was the message to all players…………….

.drop zone

.

and today……………………………..

.

.

LATE NEWS – the society has been offered the choice of either option – the drop zone stays!

Recently we were given dates for hollow coring on Condado. This was for September and we were given alternative courses for the Monday and Wednesday. Then we accidentally found out that this has been moved to just two weeks away, July 1st- 4th. With the Barry Barker Strokeplay major event planned for the 5th we were left with no alternative but to move it to a later date (August 30th) rather than play on greens covered with holes and sand. Alternative venues now are at El Valle on Monday the 1st and Hacienda Requelme (Booking available via Master Scoreboard)  on Wednesday the 3rd, with a 4 person team event at Condado on Friday the 5th.

Next week is a pairs stableford.

Woke up to thunder and lightning, bad weather in the port put a couple of players off , but the sun came out after the first hole. 48 golfers and thanks to Alicia for stepping in as starter. Peter Reeves had a long day being first out and staying to the end to close the computer down. Maybe players don’t realize how much effort goes into the arrangements of society golf.

Anyway, the 6th Apollo of 2019 saw a strong performance from the girls with Jane taking the main prize and Teresa division 2.

40 players, 11 shoppers (taken to Mojacar Pueblo), great weather and everyone had a good day. Disappointing that buggies were not allowed on any fairway, we had one and walked more than those without!
