Back from holiday now, so back to the regular blog.

Thanks this week to our starter Liz Beaton who set off the 41 players, and has also volunteered for next week as well – If anyone can spare a couple of hours on Fridays, please let Phil Cooke know.

This week was the 3rd Dublin Crystal of the year thanks to the sponsorship of Paul Culligan. Another hot and sunny day, maybe the numbers were down due to the heat?

Only 3 ladies willing to play in the conditions, so no ladies division this week. Well done to Ylva who took 2nd prize in division one. Also welcome back to Neil Simpson – a long time since he was a winner!

Although the Seve Trophy is important in itself as one of the 4 individual major events, its main aim is to support a charity. That first year raised 4,500€, and last year over 3,200€ so every year a great effort from all concerned.

Since its inception in 2012 when it was inaugurated in response to the death of Seve Ballesteros (changed to the Lorca disaster fund in the same week) the charity has been chosen in response to situations that have involved a member of the society. This year it is in aid of a local cancer charity in Alhama (Asociacion Espanola contra el canceras) – a result of Maria’s battle with the disease.

Well done to Jim Laird who went clear of the pack with a great score of 43 points! All the chasing pack included the form players – Tony Andrews, Shaun Cairney, Peter Reeves and Pat Whitty.

A special mention to Mark Ambridge, who’s handicap is higher than just about everyone, but he aced the par 3 7th hole – well done Mark!

.

.

It looks like the final total raised for the charity will be over 4500 euros, so thanks to everyone concerned for a fantastic effort!

The prizes were reduced to just the divisional winners (and no nearest pins etc.) so more funds could go to the charity. Thanks to the golfers whose entry fees went straight into the pot, hole sponsors, raffle donors and everyone who parted with their money (not to forget all those who put many hours of their own time into organise and running the charity day).

Some even parted with their hair and their money – here Clover owner Chris is getting shorn by Nikki for the charity!

Next week is the Seve Trophy individual stableford, which is also the society’s annual charity day. Our charity this year is very local. Based in Alhama de Murcia “Asociacion Espanola contra el cancer” supports local cancer sufferers emotionally, physically and financially much as McMillans support charity does in the UK.
Please support us with this very worthwhile cause by Joining the competition, sponsor a hole, make a prize donation to our raffle or any other way you can. Email Phil Cooke at Captaincdagolf@outlook.com for more information.

Get some raffle tickets (1€ each), last chance 17.00 in Clover Friday August 10th.
