Archive for July, 2018

it was pretty hot out there today – glad I’m not fit enough to play…………………….

.

Thanks to Alex Cave for covering the starters duties this week, 66 golfers played in another scorcher. Great scores, three players got 41 points, Tommy Toner must have been disappointed to only finish second!

.

1st division

1st      Stevie Locker (13.7)……………………………………….41pts (on countback)

2nd     Tom Toner (10.2)…………………………………………..41pts

3rd      Tony Andrews (10.1)…………………………………….39pts

2nd division

1st       Gier Ovsthus (26.1)………………………………………38pts

2nd      Peter Reeves (21.4)………………………………………37pts

3rd       Mark Ambridge (28.0)…………………………………36pts

Ladies

1st      Kristen Quamme Skjold (19.2)……………………..41pts

2nd     Pat Whitty (13.5)……………………………………………..40pts

.

No photo of Stevie this week as he was probably flying over northern Spain on his way home to geordieland…………………..

.

.

Gier used his many shots well……………………..

.

Kristen is lowering her handicap rapidly……………

.

Two Norwegian winners, not confused by the weather……………

.

.

It was good to see Tommy Toner and Tony Andrews get their handicaps down to single figures this week, a just reward for continued fine play in 2018.

.

Next week is the Apollo Air individual stableford for August.

.

I will be away for the next 3 Fridays, so the blog will probably be no more than a list of results. Today Phil Cooke and John Collins had to deal with the scores all afternoon then arrive to the Clover and have the job of selling raffle tickets – the committee is somewhat overworked through the summer, short on numbers, so if anyone can help please let us know.

.

There is talk of more housing being added to Condado – anyone remember this early model of our THREE courses in Polaris Sales office?

Cancellation of booking

It has been brought to my attention that members are going into the Proshop or telephoning on the morning of a competition to cancel their bookings.

Can I remind everyone that:
A.  To cancel a booking in an EMERGENCY must be done via email to bookings@cdagolf.com, the Pro shop have no access to our system.

B.  Bookings are open for 9, 11, and 14 days (Fri, Mon, Wed) prior to the competition.  Cancellation of a booking once bookings have closed or on the day of competition
should be in an EMERGENCY ONLY. (i.e Illness)
C.  Last minute Cancellations, without good reason, may well be denying a fellow member a game.

44 players made 11 teams, early weather conditions were excellent, but the later players suffered under the sun with strong winds getting up. Thanks to Marina Harrington for being starter. but players must remember she is only there to collect the entry fees and hand the cards out. A situation arose where one player paid his entry fee and his annual membership, but did not provide evidence of his current handicap (which is important).

His team had the best score of the day and could have been disqualified, but this is not what the committee want, so his recorded 6.8 handicap was reduced to scratch to allow the team to enter the competition. This cost the team 1st place on countback, with both teams then on 58.0.

When you renew you MUST give proof of your current handicap or play off scratch.

.

Both scores 58.0 decided on countback………………………

1st     Christian & Daniel & Simon Markenfeldt & Bjorn Spieler

2nd  Frank & Jonathan Larsen, Joakim Wrangle, Frode Overli

Next week is a singles stableford competition.

This week we had 56 players, although only 3 were ladies (but 2 of them were in the prizes!). It was very hot so maybe that was the reason, but as a result there were only 2 divisions, no ladies. Thanks again to Barbara Rollett who acted as starter this week. Some good scores again, but Peter Pert held off the challenge of Scandinavians in particular, with a great score of 42 points.

A special mention goes to Josh Garvey, who achieved a two on the par 4 15th hole!

.

Quite a few players have now got in the required 5 results for the annual trophy and Sean Cairney leads, closely followed by Phil Cooke and Chris McAllister. Still another 5 comps left this year though, so watch out for some late charges!

.

Next week is a 4 person texas scramble.

Afraid it will read Keith Miller on the honours board Milt………………..

.

Thanks to Marina Harrington for acting as starter, it was a busy day with 2 celebrations – Paul’s 50th birthday and their 20th wedding anniversary. They supplied a lovely buffet after the presentation for the golfers and partners. Also thanks to captain Phil Cooke who practically ran the day on his own, and to Sue and Denise for handing out the drinks on the 12th tee.

.

is someone 50?

.

Amazingly every player from the second group out won a big prize – Milt won the major, Paul H won best gross and division one, Kevin got division 2 and Chris Mc was 2nd in division one as well as nearest the pin on hole 8!

Milt is continually complaining that his handicap is too low, well guess what? It will be even lower next week!
