Archive for July, 2018

This week we had 56 players, although only 3 were ladies (but 2 of them were in the prizes!). It was very hot so maybe that was the reason, but as a result there were only 2 divisions, no ladies. Thanks again to Barbara Rollett who acted as starter this week. Some good scores again, but Peter Pert held off the challenge of Scandinavians in particular, with a great score of 42 points.

Quite a few players have now got in the required 5 results for the annual trophy and Sean Cairney leads, closely followed by Phil Cooke and Chris McAllister. Still another 5 comps left this year though, so watch out for some late charges!

.

Next week is a 4 person texas scramble.

Afraid it will read Keith Miller on the honours board Milt………………..

.

Thanks to Marina Harrington for acting as starter, it was a busy day with 2 celebrations – Paul’s 50th birthday and their 20th wedding anniversary. They supplied a lovely buffet after the presentation for the golfers and partners. Also thanks to captain Phil Cooke who practically ran the day on his own, and to Sue and Denise for handing out the drinks on the 12th tee.

.

is someone 50?

.

Amazingly every player from the second group out won a big prize – Milt won the major, Paul H won best gross and division one, Kevin got division 2 and Chris Mc was 2nd in division one as well as nearest the pin on hole 8!

Milt is continually complaining that his handicap is too low, well guess what? It will be even lower next week!

wasn’t going to add any photos this week, but Don Henry has done a good job with this of the winners, and thanks to Sandra Rollett who sent in the same photo……….

.

.

This week was a nice friendly pairs stableford with 23 teams competing. We don’t play enough of this simple format, and it seemed popular with 9 pairs scoring 40 points or more. Nigel Howson and Tony Andrews left everyone trailing with a fantastic 48 points, followed by the Rollett brothers and Norwegians Borre & Sissel Hagen.

The winners put their foot on the gas on the back 9, amassing 25 points.

.

1st     Nigel Howson & Tony Andrews……………………………………..48pts

2nd   Dave Rollett & Ray Rollett………………………………………………. 44pts

3rd   Borre Hagen & Sissel Hagen…………………………………………….43pts

.

It was good to see common sense prevailing this week when the threatened change in start times (to 9.30/10 am) was averted and times reverted back to normal. It is definitely too hot to be out in the midday sun!

.

Next week is the Barry Barker individual strokeplay – one of the few occasions in the year when you don’t pick up, keep hitting and counting until the ball hits the bottom of the hole! Also there will be a best gross prize which should keep the low handicappers happy, But with Paul Harrington scoring 41 points and Chris King 43 points mid-week maybe they will take the top prize as well?

The major presentation will be on site for a change (in the Clover) so no excuse for the winners not to turn up.

Why not some summer jokes?

Sandy in a drought?
