just about everyone had the new society shirt – looking good!

.

We had 34 players and about a dozen shoppers for our visit to Valle del Este in Almeria, close to the resort of Mojacar. A second no show by the coach (also lady’s day at Easter). The golfers were stood in the Al Kasar car park from 08.15 until 09.10 – not the fault of the coach company, but the agent.

.

no coach at 08.30…………..

.

However, we had a brand new coach which was a pleasure to travel on.

.

pristine new coach………..

.

While the golfers golfed the shoppers shopped, or went on the beach in nearby Garrucha. Unfortunately, Ken’s weather forecast proved to be right – thunderstorms in the area. The shoppers were safe, but those out on the course had to scurry back to the safety of the clubhouse as the hooter sounded and the marshal evacuated all the players from the course. The first group had reached the 15th green, whilst the last four ball was only at hole number 9. There were tremendous thunderclaps right above us, and we were already on our way back at 4 p.m. before the marshal reached us.

.

Thanks to Karen in Karen’s tie’s bar for quickly supplying everyone with a beer or two, and organising the burger and chips very quickly. As the skies cleared we were able to sit on the terrace overlooking the course and enjoy over an hour of gorgeous sunshine, before the coach arrived back with the shoppers.

.

Karen’s terrace was directly over the first tee…………….

.

Although the marshal told us to leave the course the manager refused to provide refunds on the green fees as he said we could return to the course at 5.20 – the hooter went off at exactly that time, but as we had a coach driver booked and people were still eating  we couldn’t  comply.

.

Thanks to Ken and Phil for organising the day and coping with the problems, but special thanks to Alicia for preparing a goodie bag for all the golfers. Obviously there was no winner on the day, so the sweep money went into a card draw, which was won by Ken Saunders.

.

Barry Answer must be a Jonah, as we were forced off with thunderstorms at Aguilon on the last away day he came on. He not only wanted his money back or a rain check for later, but also the cost of his flight – he came late Saturday to return Tuesday morning solely to play at Valle del Este!

.

Pat Hughes’ set up looks good……………..

.

putting green in front of the hotel………………..

.

Blair Johnstone practices his chipping just in case he misses a green……………….

.

on the first tee and ready for off…………………

.

and safely down the first fairway………………

.

don’t think Barry A could reach the hole with a putter – needed more club!

.

this was stroke one, and with 3 lakes protecting the tucked away pin you can see why!

.

Nearly driveable hole but for the drop just short……

.

just about when the rumbles started………………

.

Despite everything, I think everyone enjoyed their day out.

The captain has chosen the greenside bunker in front of the 17th as the source of funds this year for our charity appeal, which will run in conjunction with the Seve charity day later in the year. If you go in it feel free to donate 50c in the charity box that will be in the clubhouse bar.

.

Still a few places available for the away day to Valle de Este on Monday May 21st. Only 40 euros for green fee and buggy, also coach return included. As usual, Alicia will provide a pack-up lunch for each of the golfers. If you want to go contact Ken on  compcdagolf@outlook.com

Next week is a 4 person team event with 3 scores to count at each hole.

.

President Ken has had a tough year as captain, so has taken up a relaxing pastime to chill out.

Alicia walked into the room to find Ken excitedly jumping up and down.

“What’s the matter, Ken?” said Alicia.

“Nothing at all darling, I just finished my jigsaw puzzle in record time!” Ken beamed.

“How long did it take you?”

“Well, the box said ‘3 to 5 Years’ but I did it in a month!”
