Archive for August, 2014

Well, I’m back from a month’s holiday to cooler climes, and on returning immediately knew I had come back too early! Opening the car door was like stepping into an oven.

Thanks to Dave and Barbara Rollett for keeping you all informed about the happenings in the society for the past month.

Friday was 39 degrees in the shade, although as the first players teed off at 08.30 it was only 26 degrees and cloudy. Unusually the wind kept away today, and so there were some very good scores from some of the 45 players. Keeping up her fine form Kristin Skjold took the crystal with 41pts. Captain Dave just lost out on countback, and his handicap has dropped 6 shots in the last few months, so I could do with a lesson from him!

Next week is the awayday at Desert Springs, 35€ with buggy and only 5€ for the coach (only 33 seats so it will fill up quickly). Had a great time there the last 2 years. (contact bookings@cdagolf.com). Condado is again being hollow tined, so the condition of the course will suffer for a week or two.

The following week it is another major event, Ladies day. There will be a putting competition for the non golfing ladies (probably starting about 1pm followed by drinks!) so if you want to join in contact Kev at cathkevin123@hotmail.co.uk. The evening is at the French restaurant in Al Kasar.

Had a great holiday…….it rained!  Not everyday, not all the time, but something I have not seen on Condado for a long, long time! Most brits or scandinavians would not have appreciated it but we loved it!

Unusual holiday photos, but we did have some lovely weather as well! As I say, the rain was a welcome relief from the heat of Condado.

Today was a very generously sponsored Fun Day event by Eden Hair & Beauty salon situated in Al Kazar the format for the day was a  four person team event with a twist !  Pairs went out played a combined score aggregate, when all the cards were in  and checked then added up,  a blind draw took place at the clubhouse to make the four ball teams, the cards were drawn randomly by society members whilst they were partaking in their after golf refreshments!  So two random pairs cards added together made up a team of four and the scores were added together to find the winners.  Just to note as the individuals scores were recorded this was a qualifying competition for handicap adjustment.

There were 32 teams playing in the event and they were treated to complimentary refreshments served by Heather Clarke from Eden Hair & Beauty at the 9th Hole. Thanks for that Heather.

Next weeks Friday competition is the Dublin Crystal this is a sponsored quarterly event and the sheet is up in the Pro shop along with Monday and Wednesdays.

Could we please remind you that all requests for a buggy must be made at the pro shop. Also any new members and members who have had handicap adjustments in their home clubs MUST produce a handicap certificate before adjustments can be made.

The weather was a little strange for a mid August day we got up to a rain shower at 7am on Condado, the first 9 holes were for the early players were played with cloud cover keeping it a bit cooler but then midday the sun won over and the heat turned up. There were 68 players today including 5 ladies. All players were presented with a momento of the day on the Tee from Dave Rollett 2014 Captain of a specially made ball marker in the 2014 purple colour of the society with the words Condado Golf Society Captain 2014 in silver.  Refreshments were provided half way round for the players courtesy of Captain Dave Rollett, and he would like to thank Sandra Rollett and Julie Holland for their efforts in giving out the refreshments. 4 Person Team Event, Friday 8th August 2014

2nd team

With temperatures on Condado reaching 43 degrees this Friday there were 54 very hot and thirsty players when they reached the clubhouse so mas tanka was necessary!
There were 54 players, 13 teams (some not 4 balls) unfortunately 4 players cancelled and 11 players were ‘no shows’ this makes it very difficult on a team event days which this week resulted In a player paying his green fees then having to get a refund and go home This is not only embarrassing for the committee but downright bad mannered of the players not turning up. I suspect it could be due to the lack of buggy situation but all the same If they put their name down to play they should attend or cancel before Wednesday 8pm.
May I remind everyone that it is upto individual players that they are to book their own buggys with the pro shop, you will not get a buggy booked by putting a B against your name on the sheets on the notice board, we have not booked in this way for the last 12 months.
Next weeks competition is Captains Day with an evening presentation at Los Balcones hotel and restaurant. You have until Tuesday 3pm to put your names down for the evening presentation as it is a fiesta weekend and the venue will need the numbers and meal choices early. For those of you who have put your names down would you please email Alicia your menu choice chicken or pork to events@cdagolf.com before Tuesday 3pm and pay your money owing on Wednesday at the meeting in clover bar 7 to 8 pm.
