This week we saw the 1st ever captains day, with another record entry of 56 golfers.
After the storms of Friday night we prayed for good weather, and sure enough the day was fine with more rain following only an hour after the last players came in!
The competition was followed at night with an open air party in the garden of naranjos 4 (again the rain stopped just in time).Live music was provided by one of the members (Mick Parsons) and Graham organised a hog roast for 90 people. With everyone bringing their own table, chairs and drink it was a cheap and enjoyable night out. Considering we did not know until last week that we couldn’t have the presentation at the Clover, everything was well organised.
10 of the 16 prizes were sponsored (see list below) with the main sponsor (Olagolf) providing 15 free rounds of golf for the winners of the main prizes.
This years captain, Graham White and Catherine Emmett-Smith presented the prizes which included a magnificent trophy which will be played for annually. Barry Barker presented Cath with an arrangement of flowers in appreciation of her work behind the scenes.
The winner of the captains prize this year was Dean Valentine with a great score of 46pts. He also received a personal momento, 6 free rounds of golf and a gel putter.
The society has had 300 different golfers take part in the last 6 months. Condado is a holiday resort so owners visit intermitently. This includes 50 single figure golfers so the standard is quite high.
The Jack Nicklaus signature course at Condado de Alhama is already in excellent condition and when it matures will be one of the best in Spain. We are hoping that a clubhouse will be completed by early October which will give the society a permanent home and make it an attractive destination for both holiday golfers and professional events.
